Work update
Our team started field work this spring on the two-family homesteads of Effie Yazzie and Helen Salazar. These structures were built in the 50’s and 60’s, and their houses were in need of updating.
We replaced their old roofs, with sustainable metal roofing, installed the new composting toilets, started work on indoor bathrooms, and electrical wiring. We’re taking a break this summer due to the heat and to raise more funds for the project.
We cannot thank you enough for your help in raising awareness and funds for the future. We still have a lot more work to do on their homes as well as the 9 other homesteads here in the Valley
We are still in need of funds to complete Effie and Helen’s homes. Learn more here.
Our Process
-
Services
We procure sustainable living resources and equipment that can be implemented in Monument Valley Tribal Park. These pieces of equipment are made for homesteading lifestyles, where they do not rely on a grid or infrastructure. Procuring this equipment comes from crowd funding, seeking sponsorships, or grants.
-
Phase I
All homes within Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park will be assessed for what they need. We will start off procuring and implementing sustainable living equipment in one home we have titled, The Pilot House, to show a proof of concept. Once proof of concept has been made, we will move on to Phase II. Phase I will be executed with crowdfunding.
-
Phase II
All homes will receive resources such as solar power, refrigeration, access to reliable water sources, composting toilets, and showers. This will be a multi-year project done in phases based on elements. For example, roofing or installing compost toilets to all homes will done at one time. We will partner with local contractors and this elemental phase build will help streamline installment processes and procuring resources in bulk.
